Here’s how to protect your distressed tresses

Learn the difference between hair loss and hair shedding

We all want to look our best but with the uptick in stress these days it may start taking a toll on your hair. You may have noticed some shedding or some thinning but all hope is not lost. You can combat the impact of stress on your tresses!

Shayna Whiteside, a cosmetologist and a hair loss and restoration expert has advice and suggestions on how to maintain your beautiful mane while going through life’s struggles.

Everyone’s hair sheds but there are certain things you’ll notice when it has escalated to a problem with hair loss. Whiteside explained that normal shedding is about 50 to 100 strands per day but hair loss is when your hair doesn’t have the volume or density it once had. This can be seen when your ponytail and bun are smaller, you start to see more of your scalp, or you notice a bit of a receding hairline.

So what can cause hair loss? Lots of things, but Whiteside says stress is a major factor of hair loss. She said that when you’re stressed your hair sheds faster so if you have premature strands that don’t have all their nutrients yet, more hair loss can occur.

There are many ways to grow your hair but Whiteside suggested taking the “natural” route with rosemary oil. She said to put 10 to 12 drops of rosemary oil in your shampoo or conditioner. She also said that some women who suffer from hair loss may have a nutrient deficiency like lack of Vitamin D or B12. If so, Whiteside says it’s important to add supplements or more nutrients to you diet.
