SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a young boy found walking alone wearing a diaper in the roadway in Southgate.
Officers with the Southgate Police Department were dispatched about 4:15 p.m. on Monday, May 18, to the area of Fort Street and Netherwood Street after a passerby reported the little boy in the road wearing only a diaper.
Police said a concerned passerby safely took the child into her vehicle until they arrived.
The child is described as a Black boy believed to be about two to four years old.
Police said he has not been able to communicate with officers.
Officers said they searched the surrounding area for the child’s parent or guardian but were unable to locate anyone, and no matching missing-child reports had been filed as of Monday afternoon.
The boy was taken to the Southgate Police Department, where he is safe and being cared for.
Child Protective Services has been notified and is assisting with the investigation.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the child or has information about his identity or family to contact the Southgate Police Department.
