MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. – Mackinac Island has been named the No. 1 Best Summer Travel Destination in the 2026 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest.

The win is the 4th consecutive win in a row for the island.

The announcement was made official during a ceremony at the Michigan capitol building in Lansing.

“Mackinac Island is the epitome of Pure Michigan, and I’m so proud we’ve been named the ‘Best Summer Travel Destination’ by USA Today for the fourth straight year,” said Governor Whitmer.

The USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards are digital travel awards that provide readers with recommendations for attractions, things to do, and top destinations from the public’s perspective.

Nominees are initially selected by a panel of contributors and editors from USA TODAY and 10Best.

The public is invited to vote online daily for their favorite nominee over a four-week period to determine the final rankings.

Mackinac Island has multiple events upcoming including the Mackinac Island Lilac festival in June, Independence Day celebrations in July, and America250 programming throughout the summer.

Mackinac Island has won multiple awards from travel guides.

Other Mackinac awards include Best Island in the Continental U.S. by Travel + Leisure, Top 15 U.S. Islands by Conde Nast Traveler,2026 No. 1 Summer and 2025 No. 1 Fall Travel Destination by USA Today’s 10Best Readers Choice Awards.
