Guess who’s behind the scenes of this new family show?

Actress Bonnie Hunt talks about her new passion project

You recognize her from movies like “Jerry Maguire” and “Cheaper By The Dozen”, but her latest project has her working behind the screen as the showrunner, writer, director and executive producer. Today on “Live In The D” host Jason Carr had a chance to talk to Bonnie Hunt about her new streaming show “Amber Brown” on Apple TV+.

The family show is based on the bestselling children’s book series “Amber Brown” by Paula Danziger. Hunt says she was working on a different idea for a show about an eccentric aunt with a bunch of nieces and nephews when a producer let her know about the book series. The two started to collaborate with the book’s author and it turned into Hunt’s passion project.

When it comes to adding her personal touch, Hunt says she was allowed to adapt Amber Brown and Brown’s family to infuse some of her own life experiences. For example, Hunt loves to draw so she made Amber a sketcher. Hunt also brought a lot of her mom’s “wit, wisdom and love” to the characters.

Hunt says there’s something for younger kids, pre-teens, teenagers, and even adults in the show. They write from life experiences and address family struggles that can happen on a day-to-day basis which is why Hunt thinks there is a wide range of appeal.
