New partnership to help with health care

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Meijer are teaming up

You might head to Meijer to buy your groceries, but soon it could also be the spot where some of your health care needs are met. Meijer and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are joining forces to create a new Medicare Advantage plan.

The new plan allows members to use some of their benefits at Meijer stores. It includes zero dollar premiums, deductibles, copays, and no cost for many generic prescriptions at Meijer pharmacies, explained Rick Notter, the vice president of the Individual Business Unit at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The plan also comes with a $660 over-the-counter benefit card, which is essentially an in-store allowance at Meijer stores. The funds that can be used to purchase wellness items like vitamins and over-the-counter medications.
