The Walker-based retailer said in a news release that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits can be used for purchases from the Flashfood program. “As a company committed to enriching lives in the communities we serve, we’re pleased to be the first retailer to expand our Flashfood program in this way,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said. “Feeding people has always been at the heart of what we do, and this is another way Meijer is working to provide extra value to those customers who need it most.”Meijer launched Flashfood in 2019 at select supercenters in metro Detroit, and now offers the program at all its supercenters and grocery stores. “While also cutting down on in-store food waste, Flashfood allows customers to purchase food nearing its sell-by date – like meat, produce, seafood, deli and bakery products – at up to 50 percent off on the Flashfood app, and then pick them up from a designated refrigerator or storage rack located at the front of Meijer stores,” the retailers said in a news release.

A 4,928 square-foot plaza is being built, owned by Alrig USA, and one of the leases on their website is Starbucks along with Doctors of Physical Therapy. “They (Starbucks) just got their site plan approved a little over a month ago, so they’re going through all the approvals at Genesee County,” said Matt Place, Davison Township building inspector. GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Meijer has added two all-electric semitrucks to its 250-vehcile delivery fleet. The Freightliner semitrucks will operate out of the Walker-based retailer’s Lansing distribution center, and will be used to make deliveries to Meijer stores within a 200-mile range. Meijer previously tested Freightliner’s electric semitrucks in 2009 and 2019. The retailer’s trucks were partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to Diamler Truck North America. “Our fleet was chosen by Daimler Truck North America due to our past experience and partnerships on engine testing and data collection,” said Dave Hoover, director of outbound logistics at Meijer.

Extra grocery money is coming to 1.3 million eligible Michiganders right in time for the holidays. Bridge Card holders will see at least an extra $95 deposited into their account between December 17-24. These benefits are loaded onto Bridge Cards as a separate payment from the aid provided earlier in the month. The 700,000 eligible households will also receive Meijer discounts. Eligible families do not need to re-apply to receive the additional benefits.

HOLLAND, MI -- A 43-year-old Holland woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision near the Meijer store on West Shore Drive, police said. Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said the woman was a passenger in an Acura that pulled out of the Meijer store parking lot and onto West Shore Drive, but into the path of a Toyota Camry going north on West Shore Drive. Deputies said the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. The Acura passenger was taken to a local hospital for serious injuries, police said. Police said the Camry driver had minor injuries and also was taken to a local hospital.

The idea behind the ad, from Democrats’ perspective, was that Gibbs would be easier to beat than Meijer in the November general election. On Sunday, Meijer took responsibility for being defeated by Gibbs.
