Here are some ways to celebrate Black History Month in Detroit

University of Detroit Mercy has a variety of programs planned

As we celebrate Black History Month, you might want to check out some of the events planned at the University of Detroit Mercy throughout the month of February.

One Black History Month event at University of Detroit Mercy is a special book signing and discussion. New York Times best-selling author Ilyon Woo will be talking about her book titled Master, Slave, Husband, Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom, which shares the story of two freedom seekers who fled enslavement. The book discussion will be held Wednesday, February 14th at 7 p.m. at the Student Union Ballroom. An alumni reception will be held in the lobby beforehand, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Another way you can learn about Black history is by visiting an exhibit in St. Ignatius Chapel that shares the stories of six Black Catholics on the road to sainthood. The exhibit runs throughout the month of February.
