Avatar actress CCH Pounder-Koné debuts art exhibition in Detroit

Exhibition runs through Oct. 20 at The Wright

She’s an award winning actress best known for her work on “The Sheild” and “NCIS-New Orleans”, and she gave an out of this world performance in the block buster hit “Avatar”, but what many may not know about CCH Pounder-Koné, is her love and passion for Art. She stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about the new exhibition titled “Double ID” at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The exhibition features 54 pieces from her private art collection.

“My collection has gotten huger. I think about 7 or 8 years ago I said it’s time to share it with the world,” Pounder-Koné said.

She said she wanted to focus on a museum that has a large number of African American visitors, and The Wright was the perfect place. She said she’s been collecting art for many years and her collection includes traditional African sculptures, and Contemporary Art . In all she owns between 700, and 1000 pieces.

Many of her pieces have been featured at prominent establishments like Spelman College, and The National Portrait Gallery in London. Pounder-Koné, and her late husband Boubacar Koné, founded and built the first privately owned contemporary museum in Dakar Senegal, called Musée Boribana.

She has many more accolades and achievements. The “Double ID,” exhibition runs now through October 20 at the Charles H Wright Museum.
