G.A. Fuchs and Mateja lead the way in religious gifts and church supplies

Century-old family-run shops offer Advent items, nativities, rosaries and full-service church support

Two metro Detroit church-supply mainstays with more than a century of history stepped into the TV spotlight on Live in the D, where co-owners — and brothers — Greg and Matt Klopp showcased seasonal best-sellers and the behind-the-scenes services that support parishes year-round.

“We offer candles,” said Greg Klopp. “We’ll renovate churches” and “do any church furniture they need.”

The Klopps co-own G.A. Fuchs Religious Gifts in Troy and Mateja Church Supply in Garden City, a pair of sister businesses founded in 1919 and now in their third family of ownership. Joining them on set was sales associate Mia Duque, who highlighted Advent essentials, collectible Fontanini nativity sets and sterling silver crosses and rosaries trending for the holidays.

Matt Klopp noted that gifts of faith resonate beyond December. “They’re crystal crosses, and they’re a really big seller at this time — actually, really all year round,” he said. “Especially the one with the cardinal on it… it’s a good grieving gift. When you put it in the window, it glistens.”

Alongside sacramental items and devotional gifts — from children’s nativity sets to auto rosaries — the stores serve a broad Christian community, Duque said, with offerings for Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant customers.

For shoppers and parishes looking to visit in person, Matt pointed viewers to both locations: “You can come to one of our two stores at 14 Mile and John R in Troy, or in Garden City between Middlebelt and Merriman,” he said, adding that the companies are “your local church supply dealer.”
