Olympic legend’s Detroit event aims to fight cancer

Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Celebration Ice Show is Feb. 12th

With the 2026 Winter Olympics almost here, one Olympic legend is using the power of skating to make a difference far beyond the ice.

Scott Hamilton’s Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Celebration Ice Show is returning to downtown Detroit, blending world-class talent with a powerful mission to fight cancer.

The fight against cancer is a personal journey for the Olympic gold medalist and skating icon who lost his mother to cancer and has also battled the disease himself.

Hamilton said the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Celebration Ice Show in Detroit has raised more than $150,000 for cancer research since 2019.

Ice dancers Eva Pate and Logan Bye will be among the performers at this year’s event.

“It’s just an extraordinary opportunity to come together, celebrate winter in a really wonderful, fun, awesome way and to cheer on these skaters that work so hard to raise money for cancer research,” Hamilton said.

The Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Celebration Ice Show takes place Thursday, Feb. 12th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the rink at Campus Martius Park.
