Good morning ☀️
Local 4 got to William O’Connor’s Milford home about half an hour before the lights turned on and after Local 4 called DTE about the situation.
“I had to get in touch with a news crew to fix this so fast?” O’Connor said.
With four kids in the house and a wife pregnant with twins – it’s taken a toll.
“How does it feel to see that light on?” Local 4 asked.
“It’s a sigh of relief. I can’t. It’s good,” O’Connor said emotionally.
This all started early in the morning on Wednesday.
At first, they understood it may take a bit to get the power back – and they’re grateful for the work DTE crews have done, but frustration began to mount when DTE told them help was on the way.
“But when you get to day four and you start getting texts at midnight that your power is back and the kids wake up and they’re told the power is back and you’re just having to tell them for the next three days that it’s not coming back. It’s not coming back. It’s not coming back,” he said.
The toll doesn’t stop there. They’ve lost about $1,200 in groceries.
“I mean they can only have cereal and whatever is in the pantry and it’s just something that you don’t think you’d have to go through for six days,” O’Connor said.
He says 13 other homes near his were in the same situation. Even though the power is back on now, some of his frustration still lingers.
“Hopefully it stays on and doesn’t go back on. I can’t wait to tell my family,” O’Connor said.

News from around the world via the Associated Press:
Alternative for Germany, or AfD, has established itself as a significant political force in the 13 years since its founding, but it has never been part of any state or federal government. That’s a result of what is often called a “firewall” against cooperation with the anti-immigrant, far-right party.
That firewall faces its biggest test after AfD won a landslide victory in Sunday’s election in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
Germany’s mainstream parties have long said they would not work with Alternative for Germany, which is classified by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency as an extremist group in some regions of the country — including the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt. (Read more)

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green closed schools and government offices on the westernmost islands of Kauai and Niihau for Tuesday as Hurricane Lowell was expected to pass nearby, bringing damaging winds, mudslides, possible tornadoes, dangerous rip currents and as much as 16 inches (about 40 centimeters) of rain to some areas.
The closures, which include community colleges and state and county offices, were put into effect for Kauai County, which was under a hurricane warning issued by the National Hurricane Center. The county includes the major islands of Kauai, which has a population of over 73,000, and Niihau, where there are fewer than 100 residents. (Read more)

Republicans will descend on Dallas this week for a two-day convention dreamed up by President Donald Trump to rally his supporters for this year’s midterm elections.
Trump has said he wanted to channel the kind of political extravaganza that each party holds every four years to formally nominate a presidential candidate and showcase their vision for the country. There’s even going to be a huge drop of balloons at the end.
Republicans have never held a midterm convention before, although Democrats did in the 1970s and 1980s. (Read more)
