TikTok class-action lawsuit settlement: What users need to know

TikTok is offering $92 million to settle a battle over personal data -- but you probably shouldn’t get too excited about your share.

TikTok users may have noticed the notifications about the settlement starting Monday. Yes, it’s a real case.

People who have been using the app since before September could be entitled to money from the class-action lawsuit. The suit argued parent company Bytedance violated laws against data harvesting without consent.

Bytedance isn’t admitting any wrongdoing but agreed to pay to to avoid a trial.

You can apply for your share online, but if every user tries to collect then the payment could be very small -- possibly less than a dollar.
