16-year-old in critical condition after fight at Detroit school

Willy Wallis suffers broken jaw, fractured skull at Allen Academy

DETROIT – A 16-year-old Detroit teen is in critical condition after being beaten in a school fight.

Willy Wallis Jr. and another 16-year-old got into a fight Wednesday at Allen Academy.

"Perpetrator got the victim down on the ground, had him pinned to the ground, struck him several more times" said Detroit police Capt. Nick Kyriacou.

The fight started in a hallway and spilled over into a classroom.

"The teacher was having difficulty getting the two apart. Fortunately, an older student was able to intervene and assist the teacher." Kyriacou said. "They were taken to the principal's office and shortly thereafter our victim suffered a seizure."

Wallis is recovering at Henry Ford Hospital. A source told Local 4 his injuries include a broken jaw and fractured skull.

Police said the fight may have been in retaliation for another incident Wallis was involved in a couple of weeks previous.

The student who assaulted Wallis has turned himself in.

"It's not a dangerous school. This was an incident that occurred, but as far as the details of the case, I can't go any further," said school leader Brad Miller.
