Grandmother found guilty of killing her 4-year-old granddaughter

WARREN, MICH. –  A jury on Friday convicted a Warren woman of murder for the death of her 4-year-old granddaughter.

Dawn Yorke was convicted of first-degree murder in the strangling death of Linda Marie Steele, who died in 2009.

Yorke's lawyer claimed his client was mentally ill, and a jury agreed.

  Yorke was returned tothe State Forensic Center, where she will undergo treatment while awaiting sentencing on Jan. 10,2012.

The trial had been delayed several times, because defense attorneys said Yorke was not receiving her medications while in custody.

   Yorke's relaties, including her sister, were in the courtroom for the trial.
