HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Highland Park police are searching for multiple suspects after an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert led officers to a stolen vehicle investigation, a pursuit, and a crash involving two uninvolved motorists.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (June 24) around 2 p.m., when the Highland Park Police Department received an ALPR alert indicating a stolen vehicle was in the area of Hamilton Avenue and West McNichols Road.
Officers said they responded and confirmed through the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Detroit and entered into the system by the Detroit Police Department.
When officers arrived, they said they observed a Black man exit the stolen vehicle while armed with a semi-automatic pistol.
Police said the man fled on foot, and officers pursued him but were unable to take him into custody.
At the same time, the stolen vehicle, which contained two additional occupants, fled the area.
Responding officers said they initiated a vehicle pursuit as the suspects continued into Detroit.
The pursuit continued to the intersection of Livernois Avenue and Curtis Street, where the fleeing vehicle struck two uninvolved motorists, according to police.
Highland Park officers said they immediately stopped to assist the injured drivers, while additional officers continued following the vehicle.
Police said the stolen vehicle eventually came to a stop on London Street, just west of Livernois Avenue.
Officials said the remaining suspects fled from the vehicle on foot and remain at large.
The two uninvolved motorists were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The crash investigation has been turned over to the Detroit Police Department.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up or the Highland Park Police Department at 313-852-7338.
