81-year-old Helen Gale identified as Southfield murder victim

Victim's body found in burned-out car

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Southfield police have released the name of a woman whose body was found in a burned-out car over the weekend.

Police said the victim is 81-year-old Helen Gale.

Highland Park police found the Gale's silver Honda Saturday morning set in an alley behind the 100 block of Buena Vista. Her body was inside.

Local 4 cameras rolled Monday as investigators went in and out of her home on Winchester Street in Southfield, carrying evidence bags.

Gale was retired from the Southfield Parks and Recreation Department, but still worked part-time as a coordinator of a dance program.

Susan Ewing said she was a former dance student of the victim. Ewing said the victim was well-liked and very friendly.

"I just remember she was just like the sweetest person ever," she said.

Gale's family has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday.
