Detroit Tigers player arrested in February in Florida

DETROIT – Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been sentenced to one year probation after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge.

Cabrera also will have to pay a fine up to $500 plus court costs and must complete 50 hours of community service.

Cabrera was arrested Feb.16 in Fort Pierce, Fla., and was charged with drunken driving and resisting an officer without violence and was given a citation for an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

The 28-year-old was arrested after witnesses described seeing his sports utility vehicle swerving across lanes and smoking on the side of the road.
