FERNDALE, Mich. – Ferndale police said a 34-year-old homeless man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly breaking into a garage and taking off with three cordless drills.

Police said they got a call at about 3 a.m. from a homeowner on Wordsworth Street who said he had heard his garage door opening and closing and had found a few items out of place when he went to go check on it.

An officer responding to the homeowner's call stopped a man about two blocks away who was carrying a large bag. Inside the bags were the drills, which turned out to be stolen from the garage, police said.

Police have identified the accused thief as Jimmy Aldaoud, a man they said has an extensive criminal history that includes charges of theft, disorderly conduct and resisting police.

He was charged with burglary for Tuesday morning's incident.

Police said it appears Aldaoud went into an unlocked car and found the garage opener.

They said he's also being investigated for several other thefts from cars in the area.
