Legendary sports car designer Carroll Shelby dies

Texas native known for Cobra, Shelby Mustang


DETROIT – Automotive legend Carroll Shelby has died at the age of 89.

Shelby was a champion race car driver in the 1950s, but heart problems led to his retirement and he began designing muscle cars.

The Shelby Cobra and Shelby Mustang were among his most popular designs.

Shelby was among the longest-living heart transplant patients. He received a new heart in 1990.
