DETROIT – Automotive legend Carroll Shelby has died at the age of 89.
Shelby was a champion race car driver in the 1950s, but heart problems led to his retirement and he began designing muscle cars.

Shelby was among the longest-living heart transplant patients. He received a new heart in 1990.
