The schools say they were made aware of a number of rumors spreading through social media regarding violence and school safety.
The Monroe district says they investigated the rumors and nothing is substantiated.
"The anxiety and disruptions to the learning in our schools that is occurring from these rumors have led to concerns of significantly decreased school attendance for tomorrow," wrote the district in a statement on Thursday.
Nearly a dozen other school districts in Michigan have decided to cancel classes for the rest of the week.
The Lapeer Community Schools district will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Leaders in that district say there is no credible threat to students, just rumors, but the rumors have caused major distractions in the classroom.
