ESCANABA, Mich. – A key hearing this week against a couple charged with torturing and abusing a teen boy in the Upper Peninsula will be reset.
The boy's mother has waived her right to a hearing within 14 days. Elizabeth LaCosse, a lawyer for the woman's boyfriend, says his hearing scheduled for Thursday won't be held either.
Police in Escanaba say a 15-year-old boy was kept inside the home for four years, rarely leaving a room made from tarps while being tortured and abused. He was removed by officers on April 11.
Police says the boy was discovered after a relative who hadn't seen him asked police for help.
