Sterling Heights restaurant busted for illegal gambling

4-month investigation at Candles Restaurant leads to arrest of owners, property seized

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A Sterling Heights restaurant has been busted for allegedly running an illegal gambling operation.

Police said after a four-month investigation, a special response team raided Candles Restaurant on 15 Mile Road.

More than 70 people were inside, playing cards and slot machines, police said.

They were cited for ordinance violations and released.

Two people, one from Warren and one from Sterling Heights, were arrested on charges of operating an illegal gambling establishment. 

Police said the Sterling Heights suspect was also arrested for possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and another subject was also arrested for an outstanding warrant for gambling paraphernalia.  Additional charges are may still be pending, and the case is still under investigation.
