6 women file federal lawsuit against Livonia bar, owner

Former servers allege they were touched by owner

LIVONIA, Mich. – Six women who worked as servers at Doc's Sports Retreat in Livonia have filed a federal lawsuit against the bar and its owner, Frank Suchyta.

"It's just wrong how we were being treated," said 19-year-old Natalie Jolin.

The plaintiffs allege that they were:

  • "…touched by Defendant Suchyta in a sexually suggestive manner every work day, all throughout the shift;
  • being offered money for sex by Defendant Suchyta;
  • being the target of sexually explicit comments by male Managers, especially Defendant Suchyta;
  • being followed into the ladies room and fondled by Defendant Suchyta; and
  • being 'hit on' regularly by male Managers..."

Jolin said she and the other workers began a "buddy system."

"Two of us would go together to the bathroom when he was there. That was the rule," Jolin told Local 4.

The suit also says the women were forced to wear tight outfits with low-cut tops, even though they objected.

Jolin had a baby a year ago and said the bar refused to let her work again after she took four weeks off.

The suit alleges violations of the Family Medical Leave Act.

Local 4's calls to Suchyta were not returned.
