DETROIT – A fire Friday morning on Detroit's northeast side has claimed the life of a mother and her 16-year-old son.
The 49-year-old woman and her son were killed when flames overtook the home in the 20000 block of Spencer Street just after 4 a.m.
The son was rushed to a hospital, but later died.
Investigators said the fire was arson, with accelerant found in the living room of the home and a gas can found in the kitchen.
Police said they are questioning the woman's other son, an 18-year-old. He was found standing outside the home when firefighters arrived.
