Detroit City Council gets update on M-1 rail project


DETROIT – The Detroit City Council on Tuesday was given an update on the new light rail project that's planned in the city.

The project would build a 3.3-mile rail on Woodward Avenue and have 11 stops. It would start running in 2016.


M-1 Rail Chairman Roger Penske said the project will have a positive impact on the city's future.

Operating costs are estimated to be $5 million annually, and is backed by more than $25 million in federal aid.
