DETROIT – Detroit police are patrolling the area where a violent attack happened Tuesday night near the Rub Pub restaurant on West Adams Street in downtown Detroit.
According to information obtained by the Local 4 Defenders, a man walking out of the popular bar and restaurant was attacked. He was hit over the head, knocked to the ground and robbed.
Sequita Allen lives in Detroit and she spends a lot of time downtown. She said she always feels safe.
"Especially at night, you see a lot of police in the downtown area, and during the day. If you stand out here long enough you'll see a lot of cop cars," she said.
Police have stepped up patrols in the central business district but this crime is a reminder that this can happen anywhere.
"Wherever you're at and whatever community you're in and whatever bar or liquor establishment that you're in, you're coming out late at night, you're a target. People wait for you. Why? Because 1.) you've probably been drinking, 2.) your guard's down, and 3.) you're not paying attention to what you're doing," said retired Detroit police detective Tom Berry.
As we inch closer to Opening Day at Comerica Park, expect to see even more police in downtown Detroit. The partnership between police and local business to keep people safe has been effective. However, crimes such as this one are a reminder that we all need to be alert.
