WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – An inmate at Michigan’s women’s prison has died, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Dasie Forbes, 69, died on July 23 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She is the fifth inmate in the Huron Valley Correctional Facility to die since mid-May.

According to the Department of Corrections, she had been hospitalized since July 11 and was diagnosed with “multiple chronic, complex, life-limiting illnesses.”
The Department of Corrections said her death was “expected,” and the medical examiner has chosen not to conduct an autopsy.
Before Forbes’ death, there had been four inmates from the same prison who had died since mid-May: Khaira Howard, Rebecca Fackler, Ashley Hoath and Dalephenia Jones.

Howard died on May 13, Fackler died on May 17, Hoath died on June 6 and Jones died on July 2.
While Fackler’s and Jones’ deaths are still being investigated, the Department of Corrections said Hoath died by suicide, and Howard had a blood clot in her lung.
