DETROIT – Detroit Jazz Fest organizers unveiled the 2026 festival’s full lineup on Monday, along with a new downtown footprint surrounding Hart Plaza.
The four-day festival, taking place this year from Sept. 4-7, is the world’s largest free jazz festival, drawing more than 300,000 music fans to the city over Labor Day weekend each year — with approximately 26% of attendees coming from out of state.

In its 47th year, the festival will be “fully centered” around Hart Plaza, where all three main stages — the Carhartt Amphitheater Stage, Pyramid Stage and Absopure Waterfront Stage — will be consolidated to create a more accessible and immersive environment and to improve safety and the flow of foot traffic, organizers said.
“At its core, jazz is about connection, and bringing the festival fully into Hart Plaza helps us deepen that connection,” said Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation President and Artistic Director Chris Collins in a statement on Monday. “Audiences can more easily move between performances, discover new artists, and experience the festival as one unified celebration of music.”
Additional performances will be held at the Detroit Jazz Hall inside the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State University, continuing its role as a key part of Festival programming.
Among this year’s performers will be American saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, son of jazz legends John and Alice Coltrane; jazz bassist and Ferndale native Ron Carter; jazz keyboardist and producer Bob James, Artist-in-Residence Joe Lovato; contemporary jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini and many more.
“This year’s lineup reflects the incredible breadth and vitality of jazz today,” said Collins. “We are proud to present a world-class festival that remains free and accessible to everyone, made possible through the unwavering support of our patrons, sponsors, and community partners.”
Officials also said that coolers won’t be allowed inside Hart Plaza this year to help improve overall audience experience.
