Vehicle loses controls at 7 Mile Road, crashes on service drive

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Hazel Park police say one person is dead after a stolen Jeep fled from police early Thursday morning.

Police said the Jeep and a Chevy Impala were noticed by an officer in the area of John R and 9 Mile roads driving in tandem "slowly up and down streets" just before 2 a.m.

When the officer tried to pull over the vehicles as part of an "investigatory stop," they both took off.

Police said the Jeep got onto southbound I-75, reaching up to 100 miles per hour, and tried to get off at 7 Mile Road. The Jeep lost control and rolled onto the service drive.

Police said one person in the Jeep was ejected and killed, while two others got out and ran.

One of them, a 17-year-old, was taken into custody. The other is still missing.

Police said the Jeep is reported stolen out of Madison Heights.

The Impala has not been found yet.
