MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A person has died in a deputy shooting on Thursday in Macomb County.
The shooting happened at 26 Mile Road near Indian Trail on July 30 at around 12 p.m.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office received information from Chesterfield Township police regarding a suspect wanted in connection with a felonious assault and fleeing and eluding. Police believe the suspect was armed and could be experiencing a mental health crisis.
At around 12 p.m., deputies contacted the suspect at the intersection of 26 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect did not comply with the deputies’ commands and backed his car into a patrol motorcycle. This resulted in one deputy firing their gun.
The suspect drove away westbound on 26 Mile Road, leading a police chase. After a short time, the suspect stopped his car, exited while allegedly armed with a weapon, and charged toward deputies, leading to one deputy shooting the suspect.
The suspect died at the scene. No further details about the suspect were given.
The investigation has been turned over to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
As the investigation continues, 26 Mile Road is closed at Gratiot and from Card to Broughton.
