Charges against Woodhaven teacher dismissed

John Guthrie

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Charges against a male kindergarten teacher in Brownstown Twp. who had been accused last year of inappropriately touching a 4-year-old student have been dismissed.

However, the school district voted Jan. 8 to dismiss him. Now, an online petition drive is attempting to get him re-instated.

The superintendent said the accusations stemmed from when John Guthrie would "rub the backs" of 15 students to comfort them as they settled down for naps.

Guthrie had been charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, but the case was dismissed in December.

He taught at Wegienka Elementary School, but was suspended when the allegations first surfaced in September.
