Phony cops bust into Detroit home, rob woman at gunpoint

DETROIT – Imagine waking up to a group of strangers in ski masks barging into your room and pointing a gun at your baby.

That's exactly what happened to one Detroit mother. She is recovering after being robbed in the middle of the night. These robbers had a game plan: Pretend to be Detroit police officers.

Jasmine Brookins was asleep with her 1-year-old daughter when the group of men busted into her bedroom

"It was 3:15 in the morning and I heard, 'Boom, police! Police!' The door broke down. I'm like, 'Oh my God. My kids are here. Don't shoot! Don't shoot!' So I hit the ground and I'm looking and I noticed there are no badges," said Brookins.

Five men were pretending to be Detroit police officers. They ordered 11-year-old Kemora to join her mother in the next room.

"I was thinking they were police because they were like, 'It's the police! Get down! Get down!' And then they stole the money and I was like, police don't do that," said Kemora.

The men wore ski masks and at gunpoint robbed Brookins in front of her children.

"I was just terrified. I was worried about my kids. I was worried about getting shot. I didn't know what to do," she said.

The fake cops then went downstairs and threatened Brookins' boyfriend.

"They had me pinned down on the ground with my hands behind my back and one of them said, 'We are Detroit police and we got a search warrant,'" said Brookins' boyfriend.

He asked the men where the search warrant was.

"They were like, 'The warrant's on its way,'" said Brookins.

After stealing some cash and the couple's credit cards, one of the men fired his gun before the group ran out the door.

"I was just scared that they were going to shoot us or hurt us even if we did what they wanted us to do, they still were going to shoot us I thought," said Brookins.

Brookins cancelled her credit card, but before her boyfriend could the thieves were buying stuff just miles from their home.

Detroit police are looking for this group of imposters.
