DETROIT – An 80-year-old man died Tuesday night when he fell into the Detroit River near the Detroit Yacht Club.
Police said Columbus Johnston's wife told them that he fell into the water while adjusting a rope, and that she threw a rescue ring out to him, but he couldn't grab on.

His body was found underwater near a dock by a dive team. He was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
