TAYLOR, Mich. – It doesn't take long to have deadly results when the temperature in cars gets as hot as it does.
That's why strangers didn't waste any time breaking a window to get to two animals inside a car in Taylor.
The strangers who helped rescue these puppies posted the video on Facebook and it's already been viewed more than 3,500 times in just a couple hours. They said people need to know not to ever leave their animals in a hot car.
Bridgette Manners and her family are huge dog lovers. They have three dogs of their own, so they said they were very concerned to find two puppies locked inside a hot car at Southland Center Mall.
"We went into the mall, walked around, came back out and the owner still didn't come," Manners said.
She said several more minutes passed as mall security waited for Taylor police, but it was clear the dogs needed help. The heat was unbearable.
"They looked like they wanted to get out," Manners said. "They looked like they really wanted to get out bad. The all black one, he seemed like he was the worse one. He kept laying down on the floor underneath the seat and all you could see is just him panting really hard."
That's when Manners said her boyfriend tried to break the car's window. Finally, a golf club did the trick, and the puppies were freed.
"The law should be the same as if there's a kid in the car," he said. "If there was a kid in the car, they'd come instantly, bust the window, jimmy the door, do whatever they'd have to do to get the kid out. I think the law should be the same for any kind of animal."
As for the person responsible, she was taken into police custody. Manners said she hopes the owner learned her lesson.
"I think she needs to spend some time in jail," Manners said. "I really, personally think she should be handcuffed and put in the car for two hours with the windows up. Nothing to drink, nothing to eat."
Taylor police said animal control came and got the puppies and took them to a local vet. The vet cleared them and they're now with a rescue group.
