Jordan Watson crashed vehicle with 4 teenage passengers inside, police say

WATERFORD, Mich. – Waterford police said an 18-year-old man was drunk Sunday when he drove a car full of teenagers faster than 90 mph into a house on Edgefield Drive.

Officials said Jordan Watson, of Howell, was driving a 2010 Ford Edge south on Scott Lake Road when the car crossed over Elizabeth Lake Road onto Edgefield Drive and left the roadway. The car crashed into the attached garage of an empty home at 3039 Edgefield Drive.

The car continued out the side wall of the garage and hit the side of the next home -- 3027 Edgefield Drive. Police said residents of the second home were not injured.

There were four teenage passengers in the car at the time of the crash: A 17-year-old woman from Commerce Township, a 19-year-old man from Highland, a 14-year-old man from Waterford and a 13-year-old boy from Pontiac.

All five teenagers were sent to local hospitals will serious injuries. Four of the teenagers have been released from the hospitals, while the 19-year-old is still receiving attention.

The driver and the 17-year-old girl in the front seat were both wearing seatbelts, police said.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office issued an eight-count warrant for the driver, including four counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and four counts of operating with a suspended, revoked or denied license causing serious injury. Both charges are a five-year felony or $1,000 to $5,000 fine.

Watson was arraigned on the charges Thursday and bail was set at $50,000. He is being held at the Oakland County Jail. He is expected to be back in court Oct. 25 at 1:30 p.m.

Family shaken by car crashing into living room

Members of the family living inside the second home that was hit are shaken after the car slammed into their living room around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Phil Hayes said he was watching TV in his home when the Ford Edge slammed into his home, but not before hitting his neighbor’s garage.

Hayes initially thought the driver hit a tree, but when he went to investigate, he saw the driver of the car standing in his garage.

When Hayes approached the driver, the driver told Hayes that "everything was OK," but Hayes told the driver he disagreed.

Hayes said he won’t be able to work from home any time soon adding that his children somehow slept through the commotion.
