Turkey drive takes place in Dearborn, feeds 1,000 families

DEARBORN, Mich. – An organization in Dearborn gave out 1,000 turkeys to families in need Saturday morning.

The organization, "Leaders Advancing and Helping Community," or the LAHC distributed 1,000 turkeys and bags of canned goods to families throughout Wayne County.

The event took place at their office on Mason Street in Dearborn and the receiving families had already been selected through community partners.

The families came with vouchers and were handed bags filled with food for Thanksgiving Day. The organization has been doing the event for the past 11 years to help the community and those in need.

"To certain people, this may be a simple turkey bird, however to the families who are receiving this gift today, it's way more than that. It's a holiday season they will get to celebrate because of you. It's about memories that they will be able to create and they will be able to cherish and remember for years to come," said Wassim Mahfouz, the Executive Director for the LAHC.
