60-year-old Detroit 911 operator robbed while walking to work

DETROIT – A 60-year-old 911 operator for the city of Detroit found herself on the other side of the emergency after she was attacked by four young men while walking to work.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Lydon Street near Shaeffer Road on the city’s west side.

Video surveillance shows the four men following the woman shortly after she gets off a bus, which she takes regularly to get to work.

Once the woman reached her destination, one of the men stepped in front of her while the other three stood behind her. The men then attack the woman and rob her before fleeing.

“It's sad and it's unfortunate. Midnight they're out. A lot of questions come to mind, like where is the parental guidance?” said Chief James White.

Detroit police are working to identify the young men who attacked her.

“Right now, we're really, really close. An arrest is imminent,” White said. “We know exactly who we're looking for.”

The recent robbery has prompted new changes, starting with upgrading the surveillance cameras and placing an officer in the back of the building.

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
