Police said Myah Marea Batts was driving at a high speed on Newport Street, when she blew through a stop sign at Chandler Park Drive. Her car hit a FedEx truck and forced it onto a grassy median.
The FedEx driver, Rodrick Motley, 46, was ejected from the truck. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Batts with second-degree murder, operating while intoxicated causing death, driving with a suspended license causing death and reckless driving causing death.
“The judge did say that if she gets out she should be tested for alcohol, but she shouldn’t get out,” Motley’s cousin, Nina Forney, said. “She shouldn’t get out.
She was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Friday in 36th District Court. Her bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety.
