DETROIT – A family is searching for justice after a young father was gunned down outside his Detroit home in front of his 5-year-old daughter.
Jesse Armstrong was just 25 years old when he was killed, and now his family is hoping to bring his killer to justice.
Armstrong's mother said life has been a nightmare since her son was killed. He died in his own driveway after being shot multiple times in front of the home.
"I just want to see him one more time," Armstrong's daughter said. "Not in a picture, not in a video. I want to see him in (real life). I want to see him."
"Our daughter saw this," said the girl's mother, Veronica. "Nobody should be able to see that, especially a 5-year-old girl."
"I think I remind her of her dad, because then she, you know, wants to always talk about how she saw her dad laying there at the foot of the steps with blood running down his face," said Ronda Armstrong, Jess Armstrong's mother. "How she saw the shooter have the gun on his side."
"My kids are hurting," Veronica said. "I'm hurting. This is very hard. Anyone that can help us, please help us."
The family turned to Crime Stoppers for help solving the murder.
Armstrong was killed the evening of March 4 on Waterman Street near Lafayette Boulevard. He had nine siblings, worked in the cement business and loved children.
"If he was sitting here with a bite on his plate and a little kid came up hungry, he'd give it to them," said Doug Lockard, Armstrong's brother. "This was a kid that anybody in this neighborhood knows. He loved people and people loved him here."
The family had a message for the killer.
"We're going to find you, and you're going to stand your day in court," Lockard said.
Armstrong's birthday would have been Saturday, and family said they're going to make it a tradition to celebrate.
Police said they don't have any solid leads on the suspected shooter. The only witness was the 5-year-old girl, who was traumatized by the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
