Detroit deportation hearing concludes; Judge to rule soon

DETROIT – A hearing took place Wednesday in the detention and deportation of immigrants after the ACLU and the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center filed a class-action lawsuit.

The judge concluded the hearing, saying a decision would be made as soon as possible.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement rounded up and arrested 114 Iraqi nationals in Detroit and 85 throughout the rest of the country over a few weeks and ICE says the majority of the detainees have very serious felony convictions and in many cases multiple felony convictions.

THE ACLU is arguing that many of the immigrants are Chaldean Christians and would face torture if returned to Iraq.
