GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Monday marks one year since the deadly shooting and devastating fire at a Grand Blanc Township church. It left four people dead and several others injured.
Now, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on McCandlish Road is rebuilding.

“We have an active shooter at the church. The building is also on fire,” Broadcastify from Sept. 28, 2025 said.
It was a day marked by devastation.
“They were shielding the children who were also present within the church. Moving them to safety,” William Renye, the township’s chief of police, said at the time.
A gunman had crashed his truck into the church, opened fire on congregants and set the building ablaze. The FBI said this was a “targeted act of violence” and said the shooter’s anti-religious beliefs against the Mormon community was the motivation.
Inside was Dr. Bridger Frampton – also a father. He worked to rescue his own kids and several others.
“I could hear the gunshots starting and the thoughts that went through my mind is which one of my friends is getting hit. A lot of chaos,” Frampton said.
The congregation is determined to be resilient – that’s seen by their plans to reconstruct the new meetinghouse.
Local 4 is told it will be larger than the previous stake center and is expected to take about 14 months to complete.
As the church prepares to give the building new life, they shared photos from of the original Grand Blanc Stake Center, telling us its ground was broken in 1980 and it was completed the next year.
Due to city ordinance and the fact that the area is an active construction site, invites are for specific guests only, but anyone can watch the livestream of the ceremony.
