A police chase in Los Angeles on Wednesday night ended in tragedy when the suspect fell 160 feet from a crane and died. The pursuit was captured on chopper video.
The suspect is seen driving in an SUV on the shoulder and weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds. He eventually ends up at the Port of Los Angeles where he drives around in circles before abandoning his car beside a crane. The man leaves the vehicle in gear and it rolls away as he begins climbing the structure. The suspect makes his way to the top of the crane and onto a catwalk where he begins an hours-long standoff with police.

According to KNBC, the standoff ended around 9:30 p.m. when the 23-year-old suspect fell from the crane. He fell 160 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether the fall was accidental or intentional.
The suspect led authorities on a chase after allegedly stealing the SUV he was driving from a Subaru dealership. A salesman who helped the driver said he was behaving erratic and hesitant.
Authorities said the man had a criminal past including non-violent and violent offenses.
