Man on go-kart killed in collision with motorcyclist, Detroit police say

Officials investigate drag racing as possible contributing factor in crash

DETROIT – A 21-year-old Warren man on a go-kart was killed Sunday in a collision with a motorcycle on French Road.

Police said the customized go-kart could reach high speeds, with witnesses saying it reached up to 100 mph.

The crash happened on French Road near Almont on the city's east side.

It's not clear if the the motorcyclist and the go-kart rider were practicing, preparing or involved in a drag race, but police said it appears the go-kart rider made a U-turn and was hit by the motorcycle.

The Detroit Police Department said drag racing has been an issue on French Road for years.

One person suggested other places to drag race instead of on the city's old streets.

Some options for drag racing include Midland Dragway or the Michigan International Speedway.

The police department's drag racing detail is investing the crash.

The 31-year-old motorcyclist remains in the hospital in serious condition.
