HOUSTON – A Metro Detroit woman has been in Houston for two weeks on business, and now she's stuck as Harvey hammers the city.
Sherrie Handrinos has been flying between Detroit and Houston on business for years. She even has a condo in Houston and, right now, she's happy she bought one on a high floor.
Handrinos has been in Houston for two weeks working with a client. She called Delta Air Lines last week to figure out what to do since she was scheduled to fly out Monday. The plan was to bump her to Tuesday, but now, because of the flooding, she'll be lucky to get out next week.
Her condo still has power, and while she's been hunkered down, staying dry as it rains, she has brainstormed about how to help Houston.
"Detroit always comes through when people are in need," she said.
Handrinos has arranged for a semi truck to be in place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the AirTime Trampoline and Game Park at 662 E Big Beaver Road in Troy, MI 48083. She's asking people to donate backpacks filled with toiletries and other necessities, such as T-shirts, pillows, socks and sheets.
All of the donations will be driven straight to the Houston Flood Relief Agency. Those who donate will get to jump all day for free at AirTime.
Handrinos said she's never seen anything like what's happening in Houston, and she knows Detroit will help.
