Fatal wrong-way crash closes all lanes of southbound I-75 in Detroit

A wrong-way driver has caused a fatal crash on southbound I-75 in downtown Detroit on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. (WDIV)

DETROIT – One person has died following an early morning crash involving a wrong-way driver on southbound I-75 near downtown Detroit.

The crash occurred overnight around 4 a.m. near Grand River Avenue and involved at least two vehicles. All lanes of the southbound freeway are expected to remain closed for several hours while Michigan State Police investigate the crash site.
