Paraplegic man's modified van, wheelchair stolen while visiting Metro Detroit

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A paraplegic man's modified handicap van and extra wheelchair were stolen Thursday morning while he was visiting Metro Detroit for his best friend's wedding.

The van was parked in a handicapped spot at Southport apartment complex in Van Buren Township when it disappeared.

Shain Karsen was in work accident nearly five years ago. He drives a modified Dodge minivan that has hand controls.

"I think they're the most pathetic kind of people," his best friend Jeff DePoole said about whoever stole the van.

The van is a 2002 white Dodge minivan with orange butterfly stickers on both back windows.
