Woman charged with smuggling drugs to grandson in jail

Grandmother facing 15 charges

A West Virginia woman was charged with smuggling drugs to her grandson who is serving time in jail, according the The Associated Press.

Police say Carolyn Lou Gay, 64, visited her grandson, Shawn Douglas Weister, at Eastern Regional Jail Sept. 2. The complaint states a guard heard Weister tell Gay to "go ahead," and Wiester was subsequently directed toward a strip search room. It was then that Weister ran away. Weister was reportedly heard yelling, "Run granny, they caught me."

Police recovered 22 sealed drinking straws with various drugs in them, including heroin. Gay is facing 15 drug possession and delivery charges.
