Dry Friday before weekend rain, sharp cooldown across Metro Detroit

Temps going from warm to freezing this weekend

Improving conditions are settling in across Southeast Michigan late Thursday night, with the flood threat ending after several rounds this week.

The flood watch has been lifted for the region, as rainfall has tapered off and conditions begin to stabilize. While some flooding concerns continue Up North, Southeast Michigan is seeing a quieter trend heading into Friday.

Friday

Friday will bring a welcome break from the unsettled weather. Skies will gradually clear, with increasing sunshine expected through the afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 60s, offering a mild and comfortable day for outdoor plans, school activities and evening events.

Rain chances return late Friday night as another system approaches. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop after midnight and continue into early Saturday.

Saturday

Saturday will feature periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near the upper 60s. While some downpours are possible, storms are not expected to reach severe levels at this time. Outdoor plans may be impacted by occasional rain, especially during the morning and midday hours.

Sunday

A sharp change arrives by Sunday as a cold front pushes through the region. Temperatures will drop significantly, with highs only reaching the upper 40s under breezy conditions. The cooler air will bring a noticeable shift compared to the mild weather just days prior.

By Sunday night into Monday morning, temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to around 30 degrees, creating freezing conditions. This could impact any sensitive plants or outdoor vegetation that may have already started to emerge.

For schools and daily routines, Friday will offer good conditions for outdoor activities, while Saturday may require umbrellas and rain gear. By early next week, colder mornings could also require heavier layers, especially for students waiting at bus stops.

Next week

Looking ahead, conditions improve again as we move into next week. Sunshine returns Monday, with a gradual warming trend bringing temperatures back into the 60s by Tuesday and midweek, restoring a more typical spring pattern across Metro Detroit.
