DETROIT – A 13-year-old boy shot himself in the head Tuesday after his parents reprimanded him at their home in northwest Detroit, police said.
The shooting happened near Southfield and 8 Mile roads, police said.
Police said the boy's parents reprimanded him, and he got angry and shot himself.
"On arrival we did unfortunately, in fact, find a child identified as 13 years old who had a gunshot wound to the head," said Detroit police Capt. Darin Szilagy. "He was conveyed to a local hospital. He's in very critical condition."
The boy's 19-year-old brother was taken into custody because it was his gun used in the shooting, police said. Officials said the gun never should have been in the house because it was purchased illegally.
