Broken glass prompts warning for beach-goers along Lake Michigan shore

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich. – Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is asking folks to keep their shoes on this weekend.

Broken glass was spotted all along the beach shore in Port Oneida along Lake Michigan this week, prompting a warning from officials:

If you are enjoying the beaches in Port Oneida this week, please be aware that there is a lot of broken glass on the beach. Please wear shoes and consider taking your pets elsewhere. Cleanup is in progress. 

Reminder, there is no glass allowed on park beaches. If you have information about how the glass got here, please contact us! You can call 231-326-4742 or email sleepingbearinfo@nps.gov.

The area of concern is centered at Lane Road; please use caution from Sunset Shores to Camp Leelanau/Kohahna.
